FlipTop Box privacy policy

Effective October 8, 2026

In short: FlipTop Box has no accounts, no servers of mine, and no analytics or tracking. Your recipes stay on your device, or in your own iCloud if you turn sync on. I do not collect your data.

Who this covers

This policy covers the FlipTop Box app for iPhone and iPad, made by the independent developer behind notated.space ("I" or "me"). Contact details are at the bottom of this page.

What stays on your device

Your recipes, photos, scans, notes, tins, and meal plans are stored on your device. Reading scanned pages, recognizing text, and organizing recipes all happen on your device, using Apple's on-device features. None of that is sent to me or to any server I run.

iCloud sync (optional)

iCloud Sync is on by default and you can switch it off in Settings. When it is on, your recipes sync between your own devices through your private iCloud database, which is provided and controlled by Apple. I cannot see or access your iCloud data. Apple's handling of it is covered by Apple's privacy policy. Turning sync off stops syncing but does not delete what is already stored in your iCloud.

Cookbook cover lookup (optional)

When you give a recipe a cookbook title, the app can look up that book's cover on Open Library, a service run by the Internet Archive. For this, the app sends only the book's title and author. It does not send your name, an account, a device identifier, your recipes, or any recipe text. Like any website, Open Library can see your device's IP address when it receives the request, and its use of that is covered by its own policies. The automatic lookup happens once per book and is retried if it fails. If you open the Find cover picker, it searches again and shows pictures from Open Library. You can turn the lookup off in Settings › Find Cookbook Covers, and nothing is sent while it is off. You can also add your own cover.

Sharing into the app

When you share a link, text, or pictures into FlipTop Box from another app, they are saved on your device, in storage shared between FlipTop Box and its share button, until the app processes them. Nothing is sent to me.

Importing a link

When you save a recipe from a web link, the app fetches that web page and its pictures from the site you chose, the same way a browser would. For TikTok and YouTube links it also asks that service for the post's preview. Those sites, and any server hosting the pictures, can see the request, including your IP address. I do not receive any of it.

Permissions the app asks for

You can change these at any time in your device's Settings.

Sharing and export

The app does not include a way to share recipes with other people. Export and Backup saves a folder to the Files app on your device, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you move that folder yourself.

What I do not do

Children

FlipTop Box is not directed at children and does not collect personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, I will update this page and the effective date above.
